How Sustainable Style Builds Lasting Confidence For Purpose Led Founders

Katie Carr, founder of Tommy and Lottie, styled by Alexandra Standley during Style Trailblazers — sustainable, confident, and timeless.

When Katie Carr, founder of sustainable lifestyle brand Tommy and Lottie, joined Style Trailblazers, she wasn’t looking for a reinvention. Her mission was already clear, she’d built her business on sustainability, longevity and meaning. But she realised her wardrobe wasn’t fully reflecting those same values back to her.

“If you’re talking about sustainability, you need to show that yourself,” Katie said. “It’s my value, but I wanted to evolve, to express that more clearly through what I wear.”

Sustainability as a Way of Life

Katie’s approach to fashion and life, was shaped by her childhood spent in the countryside, surrounded by wildlife and simplicity. That connection to nature stayed with her through a career in retail at Harrods, Woolworths and EE, and eventually inspired her to create Tommy and Lottie, named after her children.

“Less is more,” she explained. “Everything I design has meaning. It’s about quality, not quantity.”

But like so many purpose-led women, between building a business, raising a family and championing sustainability, Katie’s personal style had taken a back seat. She wanted her wardrobe to reflect not just her brand, but her evolution.

The Power of Alignment

Through Style Trailblazers, Katie found clarity in how to align her wardrobe with her mission. Together, we curated looks that mirrored her brand’s ethos, timeless, beautiful, and consciously chosen. From earthy autumnal tones that echoed her connection to nature, to a recycled silk sari kimono from Raf and Grace, each piece told part of her story.

“It was totally the right fit for me,” she said. “I’m about detail, and that kimono, the fabric, the print, the story behind it, was everything I value.”

It wasn’t just about what to wear, but how to live those values more fully, through every decision, from what fabrics she chooses to where she shops.

“We’ve been conditioned to buy without thinking,” she shared. “But as consumers, we have power. Who we spend our money with matters.”

Evolving Identity, Intentional Style

As a mother of two grown children, Katie describes this season as a new chapter, one of freedom, change, and rediscovery.

“To move forward, I had to look back,” she said. “I’ve been reflecting more lately and I’ve realised how much our values evolve as we do.”

The Style Trailblazers experience gave her a wardrobe that supported both sides of her personality: professional and grounded. One look captured her role as a businesswoman; the other reflected her down-to-earth creativity.

“It summed me up perfectly,” she said. “Professional but still me — still authentic.”

Conscious Style, Confident Presence

For Katie, sustainability isn’t just about the environment, it’s about how we sustain ourselves.

“Style isn’t just visual,” she said. “It’s psychological. It’s an evolution.”

When we dress in a way that aligns with our values, confidence becomes effortless, not performative. And that’s what sustainable style really is: conscious choices, lasting confidence, and clothes that feel like home.
